THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer
Overall, lesbian, gay, and bisexual adults smoke cigarettes at rates significantly higher than heterosexual adults and are nearly twice as likely to use e-cigarettes and little cigars.1 These trends are due in part to targeted marketing by the Tobacco Industry.
Transgender youth currently use tobacco products at higher rates than cisgender youth, including four times higher cigarette use and three times higher e-cigarette use.2
For years the tobacco industry has made efforts to appeal to LGBTQ+ consumers through approaches like targeted advertisements in LGBTQ+ press, cigarette giveaways, and free tobacco industry merchandise.3
